Description

Throwing Spears (Javelins) Priced individually.

We have 2 sizes of spears, and both can be left bare-shafted or fletched for more forgiving flight. Not just mere throwing or thrusting sticks, these spears are specifically made and tuned to fly with deadly consistency.

~The Large spear measures 7.5 feet with a diameter of 1-1/8″   We recommend this size for a large person or someone who dreams of hunting bison or very large wild hogs. This longer and heavier spear carries more momentum to pack a punch.

~The Medium spear measures 6.5 feet with a Diameter of 7/8″  This size is recommended for hunting deer and hog sized animals. This shorter and lighter spear can be thrown a little faster and at a longer distance. The medium spears (only) also have a dimpled nock-end, which can also be thrown with an atlatl. However these are not specifically designed to be used as atlatl spears, they certainly demonstrate how the atlatl came to be.

The option for added fletching is a great idea for more forgiving flight stabilization. These javelin type spears fly great without fletching but require a better technique and practice. The fletchings make a significant difference in flight at distance especially for those without great technique.

Each spear (javelin) is made from straightened poplar. They are balanced in the middle to be slightly nose-heavy for better flight characteristists. The shafts are tapered slightly at the point end and heavily tapered on the trailing end. Their shape resembles the classic, long, torpedo shape. The wood points are best suited for practice (we recommend throwing into hay bales). Once you are all practiced up, additional spears can be purchased and affixed with stone points hafted to the tip. We do not recommend attempting to hunt with the wood tips, nor do we recommend practicing with stone tips. Keep the wood for practice and stone for hunting! The handles are wrapped with plant cordage for easy indexing and a perfect and consistent, balanced throw every time.

If you want to order spears with stone points, order the spears right here on this page by adding them to your cart, then click this link and head over to the spear point page where you can order stone spear points and choose to either haft them yourself, or allow us to haft them for you (hafting fees apply).

Non-Fletched spears shown
cordage wrapped handles for easy indexing
Fletching can be added for more forgiving flight, requiring less technique
The medium spears are dimpled on the trailing end in case you want to experiment throwing them with an atlatl. (Note that these are not specifically designed to be used as atlatl spears)
