For a more primitive look, customers asked if we would be adding a HuntTraditional bow model similar to the HuntPrimitive High Plains model. We did just that! The HuntTraditional High Plains is the osage/glass laminate version of the iconic original version.
This bow is a hybrid of a Snakey Osage selfbow and a modern laminated traditional bow. This model has some amazing benefits for both beginners and master archers alike!

These bows are faster (more powerful) than typical wood bows. (perfect for hunting even at lighter weights!)

They are more user friendly for people not accustomed to all-wood primitive bows.

They are not nearly as draw-length specific as all-wood bows as they can easily draw to 32 inches.

The HuntTraditional Bow models are a perfect gateway for people wanting to get into a more primitive style of bow while continueing to keep the creature comforts of a modern glass-laminate bow. This model is a standard 60″ long and can be ordered within a 5# weight range (ie: 45-50# @ 28″) The weights are all measured at an industry standard 28″ draw.
(To account for a shorter or longer draw, add or subtract 2.5 lbs per inch of draw difference. ie: a 45# @ 28″ will be approximately 40# @ 26″ etc…)
The HuntTraditional HighPlains model features a B-55 string, a braintan colored handle wrap (no arrow shelf, shot off-knuckle), our classic white dot edgework, and your choice of colored or clear tips to match your choice of artificial snake skins (Diamondback or Copperhead). These bows all have the classic Gull Wing shape with slight reflex in the handle, gentle deflexed limbs, and recurved tips. They also all have SNAKEY limbs for added character! These look and feel extremely similar to one of our custom Osage bows.
Why artificial snake skins? We still love genuine snake skins and reserve them for our custom Primitive models of wood bows. For these bows, the artificial skins look great, adds a wonderful camouflage effect, and they don’t have any issues with scales becoming roughed up and tattered looking with hard use. Most importantly, these are a higher production bow and it’s just not responsible to kill a high volume of snakes just for their skins. For these reasons we have adopted these artificial skins for the HuntTraditional model. They are very consistent, durable, and look great!
HuntTraditional bows include an industry standard 1 year warranty against defects. (strings, excessive grip or strike plate wear not included). The “official” warranty is currently set at 1 year, however most of our customers know that we often take care of problems well outside of normal warranties. For those that may encounter issues down the line and are patient and kind with us, we typically bend over backwards to make sure everyone has a great experience at HuntPrimitive. A name of reliability and quality is a top priority to us!
