Description
These boxes are Nodules of rock, ready to spall. The Keokuk chert (white/cream/rusty color) has been heat treated so there is no cooking required, The Mahogany and Black Obsidian knap great right out of the ground. The Black Obsidian typically occurs in larger pieces. Pieces are all randomly selected and boxes may contain one larger nodule, or several smaller ones. They are perfect for all levels of FlintKnappers that wish to spall their own rock. These boxes are loaded by the pound, not the number of rocks. Typically we can get 30 pounds +/- into a large flat rate box, and 15 pounds +/- into medium flat rate boxes.
Note: Expect some internal imperfections. Natural rock may have fractures or inclusions that will need worked around. That is the nature of working whole stones. We don’t really know for sure what’s inside them until they are spalled. That is why processed flakes and spalls are more expensive. Flakes and spalled have been spalled, cleaned up, worked, and graded. Expect a higher amount of waste with whole nodules until you get better at the spalling process. Whole nodules are less expensive for these reasons.
